Les Premiers Vendredis

Name me one better way to spend your Fridays that doesn’t include gorging yourself over a wide selection of food. -silence- SEE THERE’S NOTHING BETTER!!!! Just kidding, that silence was from the lack of viewership of this blog. Les Premiers Vendredis, for those of you who don’t know the language of love and are too lazy to google translate, stands for The First Fridays. Essentially, this is an event where tons of food trucks join together at the Olympic Stadium on…you guessed it…every first Friday of the month.  Before continuing on, I’d just like to apologize for the bright and highly contrasted images, I was sitting on a terrasse in the sun while editing the images. For $7.50 you can buy yourself a good time with this Palm Bay Key Lime Cherry drink. The timing of an alcoholic beverage at an event like this depends on what type of drunk you are. If let’s say alcohol…

NINI Meatball House

Forgive me weekly brunch posts, for I have sinned and will not be blogging about brunching but instead meatballs. I realized that I brunched too often when I went to a brunch joint with my mother and sister and ordered chicken tenders. That displayed the early symptoms of being done with brunches. Just kidding I will be back for you my dear brunch do not fret, this is just a break. I just need some distance to reassess our relationship. It’s not you…it’s me. Montreal has been quite beautiful these days and I’ve been enjoying walking around a lot. As I don’t exercise enough and eat too much, this is the only form of calorie burning I get besides breathing. This week my friend, Sally, and I decided to explore the restaurants in Griffintown and chose this cute and cozy meatball restaurant, NINI Meatball House. As you can tell from…

Eggspectation

One clear sign that spring is amongst us and that winter is finally over is the sign of terrasses popping up on sidewalks along with pedestrians walking around with 50% of them in shorts and the other 50% still wearing their gooses. Is it cold? Is it hot? or should we just take a leaf from the wise Katy Perry and say that spring, “you’re hot and you’re cold.” Today’s brunch took place at Eggspectation, a breakfast franchise (if you couldn’t already tell by the name of it) with multiple locations. My fellow bruncher and I went to the one located on Maisonneuve which happens to have a beautiful terrasse. Here’s a terrasse tip, if your fellow bruncher talks too much about nothing and you just want to tune them out, wear sunglasses and then you can people watch. Who knows who may walk by!?!?!?! Just don’t do this without…

L’Avenue

Third brunch post in a row??? Do I need to recalibrate my level of being basic? Just kidding I know I’m not basic, I’m baesic and there ain’t nothing wrong with that ladies (and gentlemen). Remember “you do you” and “love yourself” aka brunch whenever you want and never let anyone make you feel like you’ve posted too many top down angled pictures on your instagram of brunch foods. For this post, I will be writing about my time at L’Avenue, the place where everybody’s taken a picture in their exquisite washroom. We arrived at 10AM and of course there was a line already. At first I thought that we arrived too early and that the restaurant just hadn’t opened yet till I squinted at the sign that said open at 8:00AM. The line moved pretty fast, it’s probably just a 20 to 30 minute wait, which is a much…

MACAU: Vegas of the Orient

If you’re in Hong Kong for 3 days or more it’s definitely worth it to do a day trip to Macau (or as I’d like to say My Cow…and I know that was not actually punny at all, I apologize to everyone who holds me to a higher funniness standard). Getting from Hong Kong to Macau In all seriousness all it takes to get to Macau from Hong Kong is a ferry. All it takes for me to get my life back together is another type of “ferry” a fairy godmother to be exact. The ferry ride itself is approximately 1 hour and they run at various times throughout the day. You can buy the tickets right at the ferry terminal. For more information check the link for prices and time of departures. Macau Ferry Terminal to City Center When you get off the ferries in Macau and exit the…

Fabergé

If you haven’t heard of Fabergé you must be living underneath a rock like Patrick from Spongebob. If you haven’t been to Fabergé yet because you see the lineup and get intimidated by it, that’s completely understandable. If you’re like me and just have no friends to go brunch with and that’s the reason you’ve never been then I feel you. You may be asking what time is the most ideal time to go? Well we were a group of three girls that arrived at 10:30AM and waited about 20 minutes to get a seat. I’m sure if you arrive later the line up will be much more gruesome. Mimosas If you hang with me you know you only get the VIP treatment aka bottle service and guest list. Just kidding, you gotta wait in line, have a Visa and cry when you get your credit card statements. In all…

Lawrence

My publicist told me not to mention this but I honestly can’t help the way I feel. Sometimes when you’re in love you just want to scream it on top of a mountain, go outside their house with a radio over your head, take them to the border of two states because one of their wishes is to be in two places at once…well that’s exactly how I feel about Lawrence. How bae is he???? My heart is melting just looking at him. That font, those menu items, that italicized description en Anglais. Honestly, we ended up at Lawrence for brunch because initially we wanted to go to Fabergé, but the lineup there is ridiculous. As hunger was the main issue we opted to go to Lawrence where they told us the waiting time was going to be about 20 mins. If you arrive there on spot they’ll take down…

Afternoon Tea at the Ritz-Carlton

Dearest all, I am writing to you while drinking red wine and listening to my soundcloud. Thus, if there are some typos it is probably due to the red wine. If there aren’t any then I’ll be very happy as that means that at least when I send a drunk text the spelling is good enough. Let’s be honest I don’t send drunk texts I ain’t that kind of girl. How is it that an elegant woman like myself never been to afternoon tea at the Montreal Ritz-Carlton. Well I will have you know it’s not because I am not elegant enough but that the friends I surround myself with -cough Jen cough- aren’t elegant enough to accompany me to the Ritz. However during that splendid weekend that Helen visited she made sure that I had Saturday afternoon booked for her so that she could take me to Afternoon Tea.…

Mimi La Nuit

Dear readers of Saumignon, I would like to issue this official public apology on behalf of Jen and myself for not updating the blog in a good year. We have both been busy with our bustling social lives consisting of watching Netflix alone. Thus, I’m sure you guys understand but still we have disappointed many of our followers for neglecting our baby aka this blog. Do not fret though we are back and plan to make our space on the internet bigger, better and filled with funnies. Now moving along…to the actual content of this post. Last weekend one of my close friends from High School, Helen, visited Montreal from Toronto (no not Jen…and yes I know it is quite shocking that I have more than 1 friend in my life but please this is not a fact that should leave you rattled). It was her birthday that Friday (more…

Satay Brothers

Going on exchange may be one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. Saying goodbye to a place that has given you so much really does feel like you’re leaving home (home is where the heart is…or in my case where the oily food that made me gain 10 lbs is). My friend, DC, who also happened to go on exchange to Singapore the semester before mine was also “homesick” so we decided to visit the only Singaporean resto that I know in Montreal (If there are more please give me a shout out, definitely want to try your laksa).  Thus, meet Satay Brothers. Located in Atwater Market, for those of you who don’t know where it’s located it is in fact not located at Atwater metro station but a short walk down Lionel-Groulx (something that DC did not know…it’s okay brah if you’re reading this we…
